Parish Food Cupboard Looking for Volunteers

PACIFIC GROVE – The Saint Vincent de Paul Food Cupboard, located in the parish of Saint Angela Merici‘s “small hall”, 362 Lighthouse Avenue, serves hungry clients two afternoons a week, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1pm until 2pm.

This parish ministry provides a bag of non-perishable food to everyone who comes—families and single clients with or without cooking facilities. There is usually bread, toiletries, and sometimes produce and meat to distribute. Volunteers staff the Food Cupboard on those days. Three volunteers work each of those days from 12:45pm until about 2:15pm on their scheduled day. Duties include waiting on clients, recording their data, and distributing the food.

An additional group of volunteers prepares the food bags. These volunteers work in teams of three. There are five teams, so each team works for a week at a time, collecting the food from the church, sorting it, and filling the bags to be distributed, and bringing the bags over from the rectory garage to the “small hall”. This takes about an hour or so, two days a week, on the scheduled week.

Saint Angela Merici’s Saint Vincent de Paul Parish Food Cupboard is always looking for volunteers for both of these groups.
