Fr Ommar Solís appointed 26th pastor of San Carlos Cathedral

MONTEREY – Rev. Victor Ommar Solís, Vocations Director for the Diocese of Monterey in California, has been appointed 26th pastor of San Carlos Cathedral in Monterey, effective 1 January 2022.

According to the Spring 2015 issue of the Saint Patrick’s University & Seminary Patrician magazine, Fr Solís was born in Santa Maria, California. The fourth of seven siblings, his family returned to their home of León, Guanajuato, México, when he was eight years old. He grew up in León and studied there until he was 16 when he returned to California and completed high school.

After graduating from CSU Fresno in 2006 with a dual Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration (HR Management) and Music (Music as a Liberal Art), he worked as program manager for a nonprofit organization in Santa Cruz.

Fr Solís was ordained to the priesthood on 22 May 2015 by the Most Rev. Richard J. Garcia, 4th Bishop of Monterey in California. He previously served at Saint Joseph in Spreckels and at San Carlos Cathedral as parochial vicar, and was appointed the Vocations Director for the Diocese in 2017.

Fr Solís will be succeeding Fr Jerry Maher, who will be returning to Ireland at the end of the year.
