Parish Retreat with Fr Max Oliva

CARMEL-BY-THE-SEA – The parish of Carmel Mission Basilica, 3080 Rio Road, has announced that a parish retreat led by Fr Max Oliva, SJ. will take place from Saturday, 13 November through Thursday, 18 November 2021.

Fr Oliva is a priest of the West Province of the Society of Jesus (“Jesuits”) and resides on the campus of Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington. An experienced retreat master, Fr Oliva has given many parish retreats in both the United States and Canada.

He is the author of seven books on faith and ethics:

  • Becoming a Person of Mercy (Twenty-Third Publications, 2016)
  • The 10 Commandments for Everyday Life (Novalis, Toronto, 2015)
  • Beatitudes for the Workplace (Novalis, Toronto, 2009)
  • God of Many Loves (Ave Maria Press, 2001)

The retreat begins with Sunday Mass, either the 5:30pm Sunday Vigil Mass on Saturday, 13 November, or the 9am or 11am Masses on Sunday, 14 November 2021.

The retreat continues with 12pm Mass on Monday through Thursday in the basilica, followed by a presentation by Fr Oliva at 1pm.

  • Monday: The Personal Love of God
  • Tuesday: The Merciful Love of God
  • Wednesday: Junipero Serra and The People He Served in the ‘New World’
  • Thursday: Loving My ‘Neightbor’ as I Love Myself

Fr Oliva will also be available by appointment for private visits during throughout the course of the parish retreat.
